The goal of the project
The city of Baghdad and its suburbs cover an area of 950 square kilometers and are administered by the Baghdad Municipality. The city is divided into 14 municipalities. Water services are administered by the Baghdad Water Department and the Baghdad Sewerage Department, respectively. Both are responsible for managing all sewage projects in the city centrally according to the principles of infrastructure. The role of municipalities in their areas is limited to installing home connections and maintaining sewage networks (pipes with diameters of 200 mm or less). One of the most prominent responsibilities entrusted to the Baghdad Municipality is planning and implementing investment projects within municipal areas. The sewage network services cover 92% of the city's area. There are also two major sewage treatment projects in the city, one major on the Rusafa side called Al-Rustamiya and another large on the Karkh side called Al-Karkh. The operational efficiency of these stations, in addition to the efficiency of the lifting stations connected to them, has decreased significantly and noticeably (by a percentage ranging between 30% and 50%). As a result, the Baghdad Municipality worked with our company and other companies to develop and create such stations, and indeed, a contract was signed with our company to This project is implemented to achieve efficient operation of projects and thus provide a healthy environment for the residents of the capital Baghdad and avoid the great danger to public health, as this constitutes a major source of pollution. The Baghdad Water and Sanitation Improvement Project (BWSIP) supports drinking water and sanitation services, which are the high priority sectors identified in the latest master plan for the city of Baghdad. The project is based on improving the performance of the Baghdad Municipality to manage water and sanitation services in the best possible way. The proposed project combines the institutional, technical and operational aspects that will be undertaken by the Baghdad Sewerage Department, implementing two sewage pumping stations that serve (nine) shops to drain heavy water by withdrawing it and pushing it to the Atifiya station. The project serves the residents of the Al-Shaala Municipality sector for a period exceeding 30 years from the date of completion.
